Richard E. Bolton, Jr.
Richard E. Bolton, Jr. is the Bank’s President, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Bolton is the driving force behind the recapitalization of the Bank. Mr. Bolton served as a Director of Benjamin Franklin Bankcorp, Inc. and its subsidiary Benjamin Franklin Bank located in Franklin, Massachusetts. In the past, Mr. Bolton was President of Vitex Extrusion, an aluminum extrusion manufacturing company located in Franklin, New Hampshire. Prior to Vitex, Mr. Bolton was President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Chart Bank headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. Previous to Chart Bank, Mr. Bolton was Senior Vice President of Retail Banking, Operations and Information Technology at Pioneer Bank of Malden, Massachusetts. Mr. Bolton has been an active member in the Massachusetts Bankers Association and the American Bankers Association, sitting on numerous committees. Preceding Mr. Bolton’s twenty-four year banking career he was employed by Stratus Computer, Inc., Marlboro, Massachusetts and Wang Laboratories, Inc., Lowell, Massachusetts in various engineering and manufacturing positions. Mr. Bolton is involved in many non-profit groups and community organizations. They include a Corporator of Lowell General Hospital, a Director of the Merrimack Repertory Theater, and a Trustee of the American Textile Museum.
Dean L. Kenney
Dean L. Kenney is the Bank’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer as well as a Director. Most recently, he has been utilizing his thirty-seven years of banking experience to consult on several initiatives in the banking industry. Mr. Kenney served as Managing Director of Creative Strategic Solutions, Inc. (CSSI), a nationwide ATM Vault Cash provider and a subsidiary of Benjamin Franklin Bank. Prior to that, Mr. Kenney served as Senior Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Chart Bank. Mr. Kenney also served as Executive Vice President, Treasurer, CEO and Director of CapeBank of Hyannis, Massachusetts. Mr. Kenney assisted in the supervisory conversion of CapeBank to Chart Bank. Mr. Kenney also served as Senior Vice President and Treasurer of The Bank of Cape Cod of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Mr. Kenney has also worked with numerous non-profit organizations both as a board member and as an officer throughout his banking career.
Dr. Timothy Todreas
Dr. Timothy Todreas is a Director of the Bank. Dr. Todreas is an independent consultant who works with Fortune 1000 companies, venture capital firms and start-up ventures, and educational institutions. His current and recent clients include AOL Time Warner, AT&T, CBS, Ericsson, Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation, Microsoft, National Geographic Television, NBC, Nextel, New Media Spark, the State of New Jersey, VNU, the University of Notre Dame, Harvard University, and Jones International University. Dr. Todreas also manages a healthcare staffing company that he founded in 2003 and sits on the Boards of Mirador AS, a Norwegian composite pipe producer and FYSIO AB, a Swedish medical publisher that he founded in 1993. In the past, he served as CEO of eTV, one of the first interactive television channels and independent software providers in Europe, a company that he co-founded in 1998 and sold to New Media Spark in March 2000. Prior to this, Dr. Todreas was a consultant at McKinsey & Co., Inc. (1987 – 1993) during which time he worked with Fortune 500 media and communications companies in the United States, Europe and Japan. Dr. Todreas has also served as United States Senator John F. Kerry’s Legislative Assistant for economic affairs (1990 – 1992). Dr. Todreas graduated with an A.B. from Columbia University (1983) and received his M.A.L.D. (1986) and Ph.D. (1997) from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
Charles H. Comtois, CPA
Charles H. Comtois, CPA is a Director of the Bank. Mr. Comtois is a Certified Public Accountant and Shareholder with Sullivan Bille, PC of Tewksbury Massachusetts. Mr. Comtois has been with Sullivan Bille since graduating from the University of Lowell in 1982 and has been a shareholder of the firm since January 1996. Mr. Comtois’ background in Public Accounting, while working with the various types of clients and engagements, includes providing services in auditing, SEC rules and regulation, tax planning, and management advisory services. The types of industries and markets in which he has gained insight through his experiences range from real estate management and development firms and leasing companies, engineering and construction contractors, utility and power production, high-tech, manufacturing, not-for–profit organizations and professional associations to retailers, wholesalers and distributors of tangible goods to firms involved with development and goods, systems and services. Mr. Comtois is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Accounts (MSCPA). He is currently serving on MSCPA’s Peer Review Acceptance Board and Peer Review Executive Committee and is a former member of the of the Accounting Principles and Auditing Procedures Committee. He is a member of the firm’s Quality Control Department and Continuing Professional Education Committee and participates on peer reviews of other accounting firms. Mr. Comtois is a member of the Lowell Rotary Club and currently serves as its Treasurer and is a member of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce and also its past Treasurer.
Paul E. Capasso
Paul E. Capasso is a Director of the Bank. Mr. Capasso has been President of Capasso Realty Corp. of Newton, Massachusetts for the past fifteen years. Capasso Realty Corp. is a real estate developer, owner, builder and manager of residential apartments and commercial office and industrial space. As a building owner, builder and manager, Mr. Capasso’s expertise runs the full gamut of all aspects of real estate investment. Mr. Capasso has spent his entire business career in investment real estate. In addition to his real estate career Mr. Capasso has served since 1997 as a member of the Boards of Directors of two banks, Chart Bank of Waltham, MA and its successor Benjamin Franklin Bank of Franklin, MA. In his capacity on the Board of Directors of Chart Bank, Paul Capasso served on the Finance Committee and Security Committee. At Benjamin Franklin Bank, Mr. Capasso served on the Compensation Committee and the Executive Committee.
Martin T. Meehan
Martin T. Meehan is a Director of the Bank. Mr. Meehan is the second chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the fourteenth leader of the institution and its predecessor schools, founded in the 1890s. Commenting on the unanimous decision by the University of Massachusetts Trustees to appoint Meehan as chancellor, President Jack Wilson said, “Marty Meehan is a leader, an innovator, and has a demonstrated passion for higher education in general and UMass Lowell in particular.” Meehan became chancellor on July 1, 2007. A UMass Lowell alumnus, Meehan graduated cum laude in 1978, having studied education and political science. He received a master’s degree in public administration from Suffolk University in 1981 and a juris doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1986. Meehan represented the Fifth Congressional District of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2007. He served on the House Armed Services and Judiciary committees. Widely respected as a reformer, he established a national reputation for his legislative leadership in reforming campaign finance laws and protecting people against the health risks in tobacco use. Among his priorities were maintaining a balanced federal budget, preserving Medicare and Social Security, supporting and strengthening the military, and supporting economic growth that is worker- and environment-friendly. Meehan served as Massachusetts deputy secretary of state for securities and corporations from 1986 to 1990. The Boston Globe reported, “During Meehan’s four years as deputy secretary, the Securities Division [went] from being a frequent embarrassment to gaining a national reputation as hard-hitting and activist.” In the early 1990s, Meehan was the first assistant district attorney of Middlesex County, supervising more than 150 people, including 80 prosecutors, in an office admired for aggressive prosecution of child abuse, domestic violence and other violent crimes.
Denise H. Bey
Denise H. Bey is a Director of the Bank and the Managing Director of the Secondary Market Lending Division. Ms. Bey was the President and Founder of Omega Mortgage, as well as its sole stockholder. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1978 and a master’s degree from Clark University in 1989. Ms. Bey began her career as Director of Government Housing Services for Rural Housing Improvement, Inc., a non-profit devoted to helping low and moderate income borrowers become homeowners throughout central Massachusetts. She occupied mortgage-lending positions at Homeowner’s Federal Savings and Loan and Mortgage Acceptance Corp., a subsidiary of Fitchburg Savings Bank. During Ms. Bey’s tenure at Mortgage Acceptance Corp., it became one of Fitchburg Savings Bank’s most valuable assets before being divested to the Money Store. In 1988 Ms. Bey founded Omega, intending to apply her years of customer service and mortgage lending experience at large financial institutions to benefit consumers seeking access to mortgage financing. In recent years, she has served on the Countrywide Advisory Council, the JP Morgan Chase Home Equity Advisory Board, and the Bank of America Advisory Council. Ms. Bey is Director and Treasurer of the Fitchburg Art Museum where she oversees a $16 million endowment.
Richard M. Simonian, Esq.
is a Director of the Bank. Mr. Simonian, who obtained his undergraduate degree from Harvard College in 1954 and his juris doctor from Columbia Law School in 1958, was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1959 and has practiced law in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts since that time. His practice is concentrated in commercial and real estate matters. He is a member of the Worcester County and Massachusetts Bar Associations, a trustee of the Armenian Library and Museum of America in Watertown, Massachusetts and Secretary of the Distributor Corporation of New England, which is based in Malden, Massachusetts and is a distributor of heating and air conditioning equipment in New England.
